Chapter five covers Data and Process Modeling. Before we learn how to model these two very important components, we need to understand them!
Let’s tackle processes first. As a response to this thread, please address the following questions:
- Further define the term “processes” as I’ve outlined above.
- Why do we need to understand this area of our system?
- How do we handle “processes” as we progress through the SDLC?
- What tools/diagrams might be used to help with our efforts?
Each of you should research this topic via the web and then share with your classmates what you’ve found. Please keep in mind the standards we’ve established for a quality response.

Projects pose many avenues
of risk for organizations. Systems analysts are tasked with helping to mitigate
that risk by providing the customer with the best options that meet their needs
but do not take advantage of their lack of specialization regarding the system
being implemented. Search the Internet and find a resource that describes what
causes IT projects to fail and list at least one of those reasons and how the
systems analyst can help mitigate that risk.

So far we’ve studied the
structured approach to systems analysis. For this learning Unit, we are going
to turn our attention to object-oriented analysis. For your response to this
discussion thread, please address the following questions:
1.What is the definition of the
structured analysis as it pertains to the SDLC?
2.What is the definition of object oriented analysis as it pertains to SDLC?
3.Given, both of the above definitions, what are the real differences?
4.When should each be used? Are they mutually exclusive processes or do they go
hand in hand?
